{"id":9153,"date":"2021-08-16T14:32:12","date_gmt":"2021-08-16T14:32:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/procomservices.com\/attracting-top-talent-in-a-candidate-driven-market\/"},"modified":"2025-11-19T18:49:22","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T18:49:22","slug":"attracting-top-talent-in-a-candidate-driven-market","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/procomservices.com\/en-ca\/insights\/attracting-top-talent-in-a-candidate-driven-market\/","title":{"rendered":"Attracting Top Talent in a Candidate-Driven Market"},"content":{"rendered":"You have less than 12 seconds to engage a candidate when you interact with them, so please,\u00a0stop with the long introductions and emailing of job descriptions.\n\nTop talent typically\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0looking for work,\u00a0but when\u00a0their\u00a0interest is\u00a0piqued,\u00a0candidates\u00a0have choices.\u00a0The\u00a0unemployment rate in the United States\u00a0sits\u00a0now just under\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/pdf\/empsit.pdf\">6 per cent<\/a>,\u00a0compared to\u00a0almost 15\u00a0per cent at the end of April 2020.\u00a0And\u00a0the recent economic recovery comes with the\u00a0rise\u00a0of\u00a0a\u00a0candidate driven market.\n\nTo attract top talent\u00a0today,\u00a0and in the post-pandemic new world of work,\u00a0employers\u00a0must\u00a0provide\u00a0<strong>compelling reasons<\/strong>\u00a0for candidates\u00a0to join\u00a0their\u00a0teams. \u00a0In other words,\u00a0\u00a0they need to sell the\u00a0opportunity.\u00a0However, this is\u00a0a major challenge for\u00a0most\u00a0companies.\n\n<!--more-->\n<h1 style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Organizations are\u00a0obstructing\u00a0their own recruitment process<\/strong><\/h1>\nTypically, most\u00a0HR\u00a0professionals\u00a0will email the job description to\u00a0candidates\u00a0along with\u00a0the compensation\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0a link to the company website. And while these things are nice to\u00a0send, job description statements like\u00a0\u2018<i>BS degree, 5 years\u2019\u00a0experience\u00a0and\u00a0excellent communication skills\u2019<\/i>\u00a0aren\u2019t\u00a0very exciting.\n\nOften, the compensation piece is no more than what they currently earn, and most company websites require job candidates to click through cluttered information to find what\u2019s of value to them. These inefficiencies halt the process, as passive talent is busy with their current job or already considering other opportunities and, if not immediately engaged, don\u2019t feel compelled to click around for more information.\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Focusing on the phone\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\nSo,\u00a0let\u2019s\u00a0focus on\u00a0engaging\u00a0talent\u00a0on\u00a0the phone\u2014these\u00a0candidates\u00a0want to know why they should consider the job and\u00a0organization\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0calling about.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0why, when you have them on the phone,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0critical for you to\u00a0have\u00a0compelling reasons for why they should want to work for you.\n<h3 style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Why is this so important?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n \t<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\">Top talent is employed and rarely actively looking. Compensation is not\u00a0always\u00a0the top factor as these individuals are going to be paid well regardless. Attracting these individuals is a sales job. You need to sell\u00a0to\u00a0them that your company has a better upside than their current employer. Your sales pitch MUST change per candidate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<strong style=\"text-transform: initial; background-color: transparent;\">Examples of Compelling Reasons:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n \t<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><strong>DISRUPTION:<\/strong> You have a product,\u00a0service\u00a0or technology\u00a0that is revolutionizing how something is done.<\/li>\n \t<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><strong>PURPOSE:<\/strong> Why does your company exist? What is the value to its employees and customers?<\/li>\n \t<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><strong>CULTURE:<\/strong> Depending on the generation you are\u00a0seeking\u00a0to\u00a0hire,\u00a0culture plays a large part in selling the candidate.\u00a0Here are some\u00a0key items to address:<\/li>\n \t<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><strong>Flexibility:<\/strong> What is your policy? How do you address work\/life balance?<\/li>\n \t<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"5\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><strong>Social\/Environmental Accountability:<\/strong> For\u00a0millennials\u00a0and Gen\u00a0Z\u00a0in particular, this\u00a0is\u00a0very important.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n \t<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><strong>Professional Development:<\/strong> Share your training and development philosophy for employees. Do you have an educational reimbursement program?<\/li>\n \t<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><strong>Environment:<\/strong> Do you have areas for lunch, exercise, rest, entertainment, sports? If staff is going to work a long day, how do you accommodate this? Is there an area to blow off steam?<\/li>\n \t<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><strong>COMPANY GROWTH:<\/strong> Did you win a new contract or\u00a0acquire\u00a0a company in an expanding industry?<\/li>\n \t<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><strong>CAREER ADVANCEMENT:<\/strong> Show a defined career path. Discuss succession planning.\u00a0Rather than\u00a0having advancement\u00a0to\u00a0a higher job title\u00a0as the\u00a0main focus,\u00a0highlight the\u00a0duties and responsibilities (along with compensation).<\/li>\n \t<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"5\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><strong>VOICE:<\/strong> Many jobseekers look for new positions as they feel their voice\/opinions are not being heard by their current employer. Share how this is possible at your company.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n \t<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><strong>WORK\/LIFE INTEGRATION:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0The pandemic showed us that work can be completed at home.
